The heartwarming family film Windcatcher has added another trophy to its growing collection with a Rockie Award at the Banff World Media Festival in Canada.
Windcatcher, the first film made as part of a landmark partnership between Stan and the Australian Children’s Television Foundation (ACTF), has been named the Best Live Action Children’s Film.
With a 46-year legacy, BANFF's Rockie Awards is one of the most prestigious global competitions, recognising excellence in global television and digital content. Entries from more than 45 countries compete each year, with winners selected by an international industry jury of over 150 entertainment and media professionals.
It’s the latest in a long list of accolades for Windcatcher, which has also been honoured at the MIPCOM Diversify TV Excellence Awards, Children’s Cinema Awards, Asian Academy Creative Awards, the Screen Producers Australia Awards and the Casting Guild of Australia Awards.
Windcatcher tells the story of 10-year-old Percy Boy Collins as he navigates new friendships, schoolyard bullies, family changes and Australia’s natural elements to become the hero of his own story.
ACTF Head of Content Bernadette O’Mahony said: “Windcatcher truly is a one-of-a-kind production, full of heart, humour and hope. We’re thrilled that the Banff international jury love this special film as much as audiences have.”
Windcatcher is streaming exclusively on Stan.
Windcatcher was produced by Unless Pictures and Every Cloud Productions (Eternus Group Company) and is a Stan Original Film. With major production investment from Screen Australia and the Australian Children’s Television Foundation (ACTF) in association with VicScreen, the Post Lounge, and Stan. Developed with the support of the Queensland Government through Screen Queensland.
